ODE TO THE SINGING BIRD

6 Jan

A tiny feathery creature of flight, perch high up on the tree

Overlooking the vast horizon, singing out the beauty of it

Oblivious to the drone of the environment, or the passing of the time

Embrace itself in its own freedom, soaring through the sky

Singing and praising the wonder of the surrounding,

wherever it landed itself to be

Creating a sense of tranquility whenever it start to sing

Amazing is such little living thing, that calms the soul

Yet enormous enough to wow any down trodden soul

Points of Perceptive (2) – FAITH

16 Apr

I want to share this article that I have seen from my friend’s website:

An article from Yann Blanes

Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student : Yes.

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

P.S: By the way, that student was EINSTEIN.

I am truly IMPRESSED. He is not only a true scientist but an amazing philosopher. To me, he is a great psychologist too. Don’t you agree?

Points of Perspective

15 Apr

Friends may chose to leave a friendship with me, but it does not mean that I am not good enough for them.

It just meant that they have serve their purposes in my life and it is time for them to move on to bring lesson into someone else life.

I may have lose a friendship, but I have definitely learn a life lesson from it.

One never knows, he/she might be on the losing end for leaving this friendship isn’t it? What is your stand on this?

A good simple recipe to do at home…. Delicious and healthy!

Nice and Knit

The past few weeks of beautiful weather we have been grilling and eating healthy.  A new favorite of ours is a portabella veggie burger.

First I marinaded the mushrooms in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Then I used my grill basket for my peas, asparagus and sweet onions.  I grilled the veggies until tender.

The mushrooms grill for about 4 minutes each side.  I added a slice of fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, salt and pepper.

Darren is always dashing in front of the camera for an appearance (usually when the lighting is juuust right!).

So juicy and delicious, you will not even miss the meat!

It is supposed to be super cold tonight, I am hoping all the lettuce and flowers I planted will survive!  Hopefully, hopefully when the warm weather comes again, it will be here to stay for awhile!

Critical Evaluation or Self Reflection….

14 Apr

It has been a while since I last written anything and finally I got some inspiration from my lecturer to write about.

This week, I am starting on a new module called Individual Differences, in my third semester of my Degree course in Psychology. And my lecturer, Dr Ken Robinson, started off the class with the introduction of critical thinking which he explained will help us in our research as well as future learning. He advised us to critically evaluate every single article we have chance upon to read but reminded us not to condemn the author’s work.

On the contrary, he wanted us to do evaluation of those articles on the whole, taking into account the strength as well as the weakness and then to assess how to make them better by the following steps:

1. Why – Find the purpose….. As in why do we do this research? Why are we starting up this project?

2. How – How is the research/project being done in regards to the procedures. And how the research/project could be improved further?

3. What – What are the results? What are the expectations of the outcome?

4. So what – As in conclusion…….

Coincidentally, this topic had been part of my self reflection habits for the past few months of my life and how I was so unaware of myself using this method in my life and towards others. I have been critically evaluating my life asking myself where I have fallen and how I can make it work after I had stand back up, and where I have done well in which I can further improved on it.

On top of that, I had been critically assessing my emotional reactions towards people and things that happen to me. Asking myself WHY did I felt this way in good & bad way (Eg. anger, frustration, anxiousness, pride and etc). HOW did I react upon all these feelings? And questioning myself WHAT should I do in order to maintain the good feeling or to avoid the negative reactions. All these self reflection or what the psychologist scientifically term as critical evaluation had help me to improve and upgrade myself in term of character and emotionally.

Suddenly, it seem like I am hit by a flash of lighting or understanding…. everyone of us is a philosopher, a psychologist, a scientist, a professor in our own way. I just have to believe in the source of power and the belief and faith that we engaged in to guide us. I am a counsellor and a motivator in my very own way, just that I may not be as reputable or famous as Anthony Robbins or any other motivational speaker.

This really helps me to understand that I just need to take one step at a time and to keep practicing what I want to do and soon enough, I will be as good as any one of those “Professional”.

As the saying goes “Practice Makes Perfect”, don’t you agree?Image

Counting My Blessings

28 Mar

I have started a very good habit for the past few months of my life….. that is counting the blessing in my life when I wake up in the morning or before I head to bed. They are as follows:

1. I am thankful for being alive! Yes alive and to wake still breathing.

2. I am thankful for my heart that allows me to feel and to love or else I will be like a walking zombie going around without feeling and emotions.

3. I am thankful for my fully intact brain which allows me to think, to analyse, to contemplate, to reflect upon my life and to continue with my study even as of now. I am glad that I can still understand and comprehend the theories taught by the lecturers at my current age. I can still use my imagination to dream of dreams and ideas to move forward.

4. I am thankful for my eyes that I am able to see all the colours and work of creation by the universe and mankind. The beautiful and colourful rainbows in the sky, the lovely smiling faces of my love one, the amazing details of the natures and incredible structure of mankind.

5. I am thankful for my ears to listen to all the different sounds in the universe especially to the sound of raindrops and running rivers and to be able to hear my love ones communicating to me.

6. I am thankful for having my mouth that enables me to eat and taste all the lovely and delicious food in the world. And that allow me to sing and talk of all the beautiful things with my relatives and friends.

7. I am thankful for my limbs in which I can walk on my own travelling to different places without any inconvenience. That I can use both my hands to create thing, to touch and to write.

8. I am thankful for my healthy body for which I do not have to worry about illness and pain or going through treatment or taking medication for life just to control the disease running rampant in the body.

9. I am thankful for having all my supportive relatives, friends and even strangers I met every day as they are the people who leave me with tons of experience that I will never get to learn if I am alone in this world.

10. I am thankful for the things I have in my life.

There are a lot more of things that I can recount and list as my blessing but these TOP 10 list alone are enough to let me wake up in the morning to feel blessed and happy. What about you? Is there anything in your life that you are thankful for everyday? Would love to hear what you are thankful of!

Influential media everywhere be it positive or negative

28 Mar

I have some time today to check on my friends’ status on FB and read a few blogs here & there, and there I realize how easy our mindset could be influenced by the news & media out there. A slip in my guard about my consciousness and mindset, I will let some form of negativity into my mind to bring me down in my thoughts and emotions.

I questioned myself about each individual mentality and their perceptive. How a particular issue can create so much diverse reactions and thoughts form. And how their strong reaction in term of emotions can influence our thoughts and our reactions. It is amazing discovery and got me thinking about the influential speakers (Eg. Hilter, Lincoln and Gandhi) around the world who chose to influence people in their own ways (be it to hurt or to heal).

Upon further reflections, I decide and choose to be influential in my own way positively. To create a positive aspect about myself and about life. To be always consciously aware of the negative aspect of people emotions but not to be affected by them. It will be hard work but as long as I believe I can & Not influence by it, I will be able to do it! And of course I will only be able to do that with the help of the Higher Power…..

How do you feel about the influences that the media have on us? Would appreciate your feedback.
